Well done to Teresa Doogue who won the “Ladies Cup” for Lady Golfer of the Year 2009, she started playing golf late last year, and playing off 36, won a singles competition in May and June, the Presidents Prize to the Ladies in August and the Ann Sheerin Memorial Trophy in September along with a runner up and a few 3rd place finishes, She now plays off 26. Hot on her heels was former International and current Irish Team Manager Mary Gorry, playing off 4 Mary played some marvellous golf by winning 5 singles competitions.
Kilcullen native, Blessington sergeant and living in Baltinglass, Brian Foley started playing 5 years ago in the Garda Golf society, he then joined Baltinglass Golf Club in 2007 and adapted quickly to the game. At the start of this year he was playing off 18, but lost 3 shots as the year progressed, he then qualified for the final round of the Captains Prize, was also runner up in the July Medal, then 3rd in the August V Par competition, as the season progressed Michael Dowling and Brendan Doogue started to take chase, but the icing cake for Brian was to win the September Medal with a 69 nett. He then had to forego a couple of tense weekends as any of 10 players could overtake him but he held his nerve before he clinched the coveted DW Mogg trophy for champion golfer of the year 2009 on the last singles competition of the Year. Well done to Brian.
