For a change we were blessed with dry crisp weather last Sunday morning, as the frost gradually cleared and the sun made an appearance, mulled wine warmed up some of the large turnout of members who came to honour our Captains Robert Mc Hugh and Olivia Cooney. Dressed in 1930s vintage outfits they made their entrance in a rather unusual Horse driven Carriage and to much amusement, applause and camera flashing, the champagne bottles corked as the 2010 Captains were officially welcomed into office. Then after much furore they calmly hit their drives up the first fairway as they were joined by the President Jim Byrne and Lady President June Smith, followed by 86 Men and Ladies who scrambled to every other tee box for the shotgun start. At the prize giving the Hon Secretary Jim Murray introduced both captains and wished them every success during 2010. The Captains Drive in for Robert Mc Hugh and Olivia Cooney is on this Sunday 7^th March at 12pm sharp, please put in your diary as a great day is promised! Your support for this event will be greatly appreciated. The Winter League is on only this Saturday 6^th March, with draws every 30 mins. Time sheet is in the Clubhouse. Congratulations also to the Mens Secretary Paudge Doody who had a hole in one on the 5^th, according to his playing partner, the Captain, he flushed an 8 iron over the flag and spun 12ft back into the hole!! Well done Paudge!

103 played in our sweepstake competition last weekend which brought a great atmosphere around the club again, we are also having the same competition this weekend, a 14 hole Sweepstake, the draw takes place on Saturday and Sunday 9am and 1pm all are very welcome. We had the final of the Mitchell Cup (singles Matchplay) last weekend which saw 2 of the up and coming stars of our golf club Brian Lord and Patrick Browne do battle in a very tense and exciting final which went all the way to the 20^th. Both lads had grazed the golf course every day during the summer but college beckoned, and despite all this they both played tremendous golf, both around in 5 over and the match all square after 18 holes, they then both halved the 19^th in par and onto the 20^th where Brian Lord emerged victorious to claim his first Singles Matchplay title.

DORAN and MURPHY complete 3 in a row!!! Our fourball final was held over the weekend and we witnessed a remarkable achievement with John Doran jnr (3) and Michael Murphy (16) winning their 3^rd fourball title in a row and they remain undefeated in 17 matches as a partnership since May 2007. They defeated Michaels Sunday morning playing partners John O`Connell (9) and Raymond Danne (7) on the 18^th in a very tense, banter ridden and exciting showdown held in great sportsmanship! Well done to John and Michael and I am sure they are looking forward in going for the unprecedented 4 in a row!!!!
